My (50f) husband (55m) wants me to be mad that he did not let a woman die in front of him

My husband and I were in an accident a few days ago. We were heading home from a trip. I was tired and sleeping in the passenger seat. My husband was driving. We were on a bridge and he said he did not see the woman in front of him stop until it was too late. He said he tried to avoid her, and he swerved right onto the sidewalk. He said he saw a group of people on the sidewalk and he did not want to hurt them. He lost control of the car and we went down a small hill. We both were brought to the hospital.<br><br>A few hours after the accident, a young woman came up to me. She asked if I was my husbands wife and I said yes. She said her mother died in that accident. Her mother was the one my husband said he would have hit had he not swerved. I told her I was sorry for her loss and she became very irate and told me that my husband murdered her mother and that she was going to make sure I lost my husband for good.<br><br>I was shocked. I told her I didn't know what to say but she just stormed off. Later my husband came in and I told him about the woman that came in. He told me he was prepared for that. He said he knew the woman would not take it well. I asked him what he meant and he told me about the accident. When he told me I got upset. I asked him why he risked our lives. He said he was sorry. He did not mean to hurt me. He said he could not live with himself if he had hurt that woman and her grandchildren who were in the car. He said he knows he made the wrong choice but it is what he had to do.<br><br>The woman's daughter contacted our insurance company. I don't know what will happen. I am conflicted. I am upset that my husband would throw away our lives like that. But at the same time, I am a little impressed he saved a family. I do not know what I would have done in his position.<br><br>I do not know how to feel. I am just lost.<br><br>Edit - My husband and I are both fine. My husband broke his collar bone. I broke my arm and leg. I am expected to make a full recovery with some therapy. My husband is doing okay. His bone heal in a few weeks.
