I raised $400 for a food bank pulling up to a cook off with a mailbox attached to the back of my car

I saw a cook off on a local FB group with a $500 entry fee. A lot of other local businesses were saying it was too much money for an entry fee. I said it would be awesome if the entry fees went to a local food bank. I was told it wasn't possible. I decided to raise the money myself. It took a few months and a lot of Facebook posts. I even sent letters to local businesses with 0 luck. On the day of the cook off, I had raised $250 and there were multiple people saying they would give me money in person there. I threw a mailbox on the back of my car with a cardboard box underneath with some holes in it. There was a steady line of people donating money and leaving notes with supportive words. At the end of the day, I had raised $400 and a few people said they would leave checks at the local food bank. I am the world's worst networker and don't have really any connections. With persistence and a bit of effort, I was able to raise a lot more money than I anticipated. Just a $20-50 donation from many people added up. If you want to raise money for a cause that is important to you, you need to put yourself out there, not wait for people to come to you. If you're feeling inspired, tell me what you think you would like to raise money for and your plan of action.

Edit: for those asking how to set up the mailbox, I literally put screws through a metal mailbox and screwed a piece of wood to the back of it and then screwed the wood into a piece of cardboard. I used two screws to hold it in place.
