Last summer when I was camping in the mountains, I was sitting by the campfire. I kicked a rock and noticed the metal was shining. This was a cook pot that someone had set in the fire because they were done with it. Maybe it was a disposable pot for a kid. Nonetheless, I cleaned it up when I got home, put some oil on it, and it became my new favorite cooking pot.

It's a small 1.5-quart pot, and it is perfect for cooking beans and rice for my meals & when I'm preparing chili or pasta sauces that I put in a Dutch oven. I can quickly heat up an amount of sauce before adding it to the big pot.

I also use it for cooking salsa for when I have tacos in cookouts. It is also perfect for a small soup, or a little bit of coffee when I have to go camping somewhere without a portable stove and they won't allow open flames. I can light the camping stove inside my sleeping bag for warmth while it's heating up a cup of coffee.

I know it's just little things, but it changed my life. The one thing that stayed in my mind all winter was how I was able to salvage so much for almost nothing. It was probably the original Salvation Army.

I shop thrift stores all the time, and I usually have a pretty good haul when I get home. I've even given a lot of stuff away when I couldn't sell it.

My family works a lot, and we take turns cooking. A while back I had a soup cooking in a little Crock-Pot, but I had to leave early to go camping in the mountains. I was able to transfer that soup into the little pot in cook it in the cooler while I was driving. Every time I stopped for gas, I would turn in on for 20 minutes or so, and it was still warm when I got home.

I'm sure a lot of you use little pots for different things, but for someone who never knew about this, I thought I would put it out there.

Bye for now, Taters.
