Is it a coincidence that Trump and Kanye both came out as Christians after being at the center of media attention for being straightforward and honest?

It just seems like another tactic of the media to associate Christianity with these unlovable characters, so Christians get associated with both Kanye and trump when really they're just using Christianity as a way to improve their public image.
