ELI5: Why did Netflix and Amazon go all in on their video game service, and why do they keep pumping money into it if it's not very popular?

Amazon just announced that they are going to be investing $20 billion dollars into Luna, and Netflix just said they are going to be investing $20 billion dollars into Netflix games. But outside of overpriced hardware and cloud hardware, they’re mostly releasing mobile games. Why are they going so all in on this?
