I am going to tell you about the ancient Greeks. You may have heard of them. In fact, schools often teach about the ancient Greeks.

First of all, they were the first Greeks. They are considered one of the cradles of humanity, along with ancient Egypt, China, etc. That is, they are a civilization that has given a lot to the entire Western world. The Hellenistic Empire, which is ancient Greece, is the first country in the world that allowed its citizens to vote. That is, they were the first democrats. (Please note that this was only for men. Back then, it was normal for women to be at home.) They also created theater, they were the first to invent everything related to schools, they invented philosophy, they invented all branches of science, they invented mythology, they even, in a way, invented sports. They invented the Olympic Games, which were held every four years. The Olympics were also the first countries to unite for a single goal, that is, peace.

I could talk about them for hours. And now I will tell you about some of the places in ancient Greece that are worth visiting. The Acropolis of Athens is one of the most beautiful places in ancient Greece. The Acropolis is located in the capital of Greece, which is Athens. I am sure many of you have heard of Athens, but you have probably forgotten what it is. You can find it on Google. The Acropolis is built on a hill, and on it stand many temples. The Parthenon is the most beautiful of them. It is the temple of the goddess Athena, who was the protector of the city.

According to Greek mythology, the goddess Athena was the daughter of Zeus, the king of the gods. Once, Zeus got a headache, and when he cut his head, Athena came out of his head as a grown woman. She was the goddess of wisdom, justice and war. She was depicted as a woman who wore armor and had a spear and a shield in her hands. She was the protector of the city of Athens, which was named after her.

Another place worth visiting is Delphi. Delphi is also located in Greece, and it is a very famous place from ancient Greece. But it is considered a shrine of Apollo, the god of the sun. He was the twin brother of Artemis, the goddess of the moon. In Delphi you can also find a theater, and it is one of the most intact theaters from ancient Greece.

I can also tell you about the ancient city of Corinth. Corinth was an ancient city in Greece that was known for its corruption. Somehow, the city became synonymous with prostitution. That's why today we have the expression "Corinthian woman", which means a woman who sells her body. The city was built on a hill and the citizens there even had slaves. It was a very rich city, and in it there was a very famous temple dedicated to the goddess of love, Aphrodite. In that temple, there were a total of 1,000 holy prostitutes, which were owned by Aphrodite herself. Above the city is the citadel of Acraikorinthos. Today, only ruins remain of the city.

There are really a lot of places in ancient Greece that I could tell you about. I can also tell you about the ruins of the ancient city of Delos, I can tell you about Mycenae, Tiryns, ancient Agamemnon's palace, or the city of Knossos on the island of Crete. But today, I will only tell you about ancient Olympia.

Ancient Olympia was a city in Greece that gave its name to the Olympic Games. It was located in the valley of the Alfei river, and it is one of the most important cities in ancient Greece. In it there was Zeus' temple, where the famous statue of Zeus was located. The statue was one of the seven wonders of the world. It was made of gold and ivory, and it depicted Zeus sitting on a throne. Zeus was the king of all the gods.

In Olympia, you can also find the ancient stadium, which is the only ancient stadium in Greece that is completely preserved and where the Olympic Games were held. The stadium is 192 meters long, it is 8 meters wide, and it can fit 45,000 spectators. The stadium has stone seats, but even the floor is made of stone. Above the stadium there is a hill where you can watch the competition.

Ancient Greece, although it is old, has left us a great legacy. Many of us would not be where we are today without the ancient Greeks. They are one of the greatest civilizations in history, and we should be grateful to them.
