What must I know if I want to add an autistic character to my novel?

The title basically says it all. I have a few questions in detail down below.

So, I'm working on a romantic comedy (the project is still in the very early stages), and I'm thinking about one of the leads. I know that I want her to be autistic (I am also autistic), but I want to make sure I do it well. I have a few questions.

First, I read the first of the Divergent books. In it, the main character, Tris, is described as possibly being on the autism spectrum. Now, I'm not diagnosed with anything like this, but in many ways, Tris is a lot like I am. She doesn't know how to react in social situations, is incredibly literal, and has a hard time understanding and expressing emotions (for herself and others). She also has a bit of trouble with sensory regulation. Being able to relate to her like that felt incredible, and I think a coupe of other autistic people I know feel the same way. I have no desire to make my character autistic, but am I wrong to describe her in ways similar to Tris? I don't think that every autistic person reacts the same way in every situation, so I think it would be okay to have her be similar but not the same, but I'm not really sure.

Second, what are some things that you as an autistic person wish that non-autistic people knew about autism? The best way to portray it seems like it would be to hear from autistic people themselves, but since there's not just one way to be autistic, this is sort of an impossible task. I know that things like functioning labels and the use of identities-first or person-first language are very divisive topics in the autistic community, so I'm not sure what to do (personally, I use both interchangeably, but I know lots of people have strong opinions on it). So, tell me anything you think it would be important for me to know going into this.

Apologies if anything is not clear here; I am exhausted and my brain is a bit fried.
