**Title:** Moontouch<br>**Genre:** Young Adult Dark Fantasy<br>**Length:** 6,800 words<br><br>**Excerpt:**<br><br> “Sorry, your grace,” she rushed, as she often did when speaking to him. “But from the look on your face I think you need this more.”<br><br> He held the cup, not touching the edge of the fabric. It was too cold for him to drink. Once it was melted enough, he leaned down and took a sip. Jeanette had managed to find a little flavor, unlike a lot of the people who made the drink. He melted the rest and gulped down the entirety.<br><br> “Thank you, Jeanette.”<br><br> She smiled, “Of course, your grace. I melted it myself this time. I found that blending it, not melting makes it taste more like the tea back home.”<br><br> “Ah.”<br><br> “You should have some, sir.”<br><br> “No thank you Jeanette. I am busy. Please continue.”<br><br> “Thank you sir.”<br><br> “You’re welcome, thank you again.”<br><br> “You’re very welcome, your grace.”<br><br> She turned back to him,. “You know some people say you’re only royalty because of your skin. That you used to be a slave or something. Was it true?”<br><br> He chuckled. “Yes.”<br><br> “I’m glad I don’t live where we used to. Some people there were just awful. I thought I was going to have to fight that Wizard in the tavern when he said he was going to put you on a leash. I’m glad he was joking.”<br><br> “I’m glad you didn’t. He would have killed you.” Moonscar said. “But don’t worry, I’m not offended. There’s nothing wrong with talking.”<br><br> He was right, Moonscar thought, she had a nice smile. “You’re always welcome to come up into the gallery and talk.”<br><br> “Really?”<br><br> “Yes.”<br><br> “Thank you, your grace.”<br><br> “You’re welcome, thank you.” Moonscar said. “But one favor.”<br><br> “Yes.”<br><br> “Don’t call me your grace when we’re talking, please. Call me Moonscar.”<br><br> “Of course, king Moons…Moonscar.” She laughed, “I’ll try to remember.”<br><br> “I know your name is Jeanette.”<br><br> “Yes.”<br><br> “Even if I was a slave Jeanette, I was still a person.”<br><br> “I know.” She said.<br><br> “Good. Do you know where I can get more of this drink? If I can’t find more, I’m afraid I might have to break into your personal stores.”<br><br> “No.”<br><br> “Where did you get it?”<br><br> “I found them back in one of the store rooms. I don’t think anyone uses them anymore. I was thinking about asking the Wizard if I can use them. I like making tea, not the dried out stuff, but real brewed tea. Hot water does not taste nice Jeanette. I don’t know what I would have done if he had said that to you.”<br><br> “I would have thanked him for the compliment.”<br><br> “Are you sure?”<br><br> “Yes.”<br><br> “I’m glad you weren’t there then. I don’t think I could bear you thanking him for the insult.”<br><br> “I wasn’t a slave. I may have had the name but it’s not the same. I know you weren’t treated like that either.” Moonscar said.<br><br> “No, I don’t think I could have dealt with that. I was called a ‘N’ some times.”<br><br> “Ah.”<br><br> “I’m sorry Jeanette. I didn’t know.” Moonscar said.<br><br> “It’s alright. I’m just glad I’m here and I should be thanking you.”<br><br> Moonscar smiled. Jeanette was adorable, not physically but when she spoke like that it was cute. “You’re welcome Jeanette. Just a sec, please.” He looked out the window for a moment before turning back to Jeanette. “Do you know where I can get more of this drink?
