We visit Germany 2-3 times a year and German cities continue to get worse because of drug addicted homeless people

Last few years we visit Germany 2-3 times per year for business and tourism. Normally we visit German cities like Berlin, Dusseldorf, Munich and Hamburg, and especially Berlin is like a second home to us. We have been visiting these cities for more than 10 years now and last couple of years we've noticed that drug addicted homeless people are taking over.

Everywhere in these cities you will find homeless people (usually men) doing drugs, either in the shadow or even out in the open in broad daylight. They can't even walk anymore and spill all over themselves. It's very sad to watch and these people need help as they can't help themselves.

In Berlin you will find them all over the city. I walk a lot for work and have lost count how many times I've had to stop because a homeless person was lying on the sidewalk and couldn't walk on their own. When I walk through a park I have to navigate through dirty syringes and a lot of times I've had to steer around needles. In train stations you will find a lot of homeless people as well doing all kinds of drugs, sometimes even on the train itself while people around them have small kids with them.

I did talk to locals and even they agree that the problem is getting worse and worse. They say it's the immigrants (usually from Balkan countries) that are selling the drugs, but the police rarely does anything. They just walk up to the police and get send away with a warning. The junkies themselves get a lot of help, but the problem is that they are offered help, but a lot of them decline. And that's a big problem as you can't force people to get help.

Last week I was in Munich and walked through a park. I came across a homeless person and thought that he was dead, but happily he was alive. He was freezing and couldn't talk anymore. I got some help and we were able to get an ambulance. Without any judgement towards homeless people, I honestly don't understand how they are able to survive in this cold. It's 0 degrees at the moment in Munich and this guy had no more than a sweater on him. Still, he was happy and declined any help (likely because he would have to stop doing drugs).

I've been to a lot of cities and countries, but Germany seems to give their citizens a lot of freedom. Like hardcore porn at the gas station, topless sunbathing, etc. And I am not judgemental at all as long as people don't bother me. But the problem we are facing now is that it doesn't only bother me, but many people around me as well. And worst of all, it doesn't help the addict. I feel we should have a total drug ban and arrest people selling drugs and force addicts in a rehabilitation project. Not everyone will succeed, but a lot will. And if they don't succeed they can try again, as you can't get clean when you're still living on the streets.

I hope that the German government will take action as currently it seems like a lost cause.
