I nannied for one family for the past nine months. Last week, I watched the kids on Monday and then on Tuesday, I could tell I was coming down with something. By the time the parents arrived on Tuesday, I knew I was sick. They asked how I was doing and I said that I didn’t feel good. They asked what was wrong and I said I think I’m coming down with something. They asked me to stay longer but I didn’t feel up to it. They said they’d pay me extra if I stayed longer as they were running late and they knew how bad it was out. I said I would stay until 6. They asked if I would stay until 7:30 and I agreed. I ended up staying until 9:30 because they didn’t show up until then and didn’t call/text me to let me know they were going to be late again. My plan was to reach out to my old babysitting clients to see who needs a babysitter and make some extra money while I was sick.

On Wednesday, I was texting the parents to let them know that I was sick and couldn’t watch the kids. Their response was basically that they knew I wasn’t feeling good but thought I was just being lazy on Tuesday and that’s why I didn’t want to stay late. They basically said that they didn’t believe me until the kids came home from school on Wednesday and said I looked really sick the day before.

They then said they didn’t hire a babysitter on Wednesday because they thought I was being lazy and that I would show up to babysit. They said they didn’t hire a babysitter because they didn’t want to screw over the sitter by hiring them last minute and then cancelling at the last minute. So instead of hiring a sitter last minute, I basically lost a day of work because they didn’t want to screw over the babysitter they could have hired.

Edit: 1. I didn’t tell them I was sick on Monday. I said I didn’t feel good on Tuesday. Tuesday was when I knew I was getting sick. Monday, I was fine besides being tired.

2. I don’t care if they went out on Tuesday. They asked if I would stay longer and when I agreed, they just didn’t show up. They didn’t tell me that they were going to be late.

3. Yes, they could have hired another babysitter. It’s not like there is a shortage of babysitters in LA. They made the choice not to hire someone else.

4. Yes they knew I was sick. They said they knew I was sick when the kids came home from school on Wednesday.

5. I didn’t say they knew I was sick on Tuesday. They didn’t know I was sick until the kids came home on Wednesday and said I looked sick on Tuesday. They thought I was being lazy on Tuesday.
