I see a lot of threads about annoying things that authors do, but recently I read something that blew me away.

* SPOILER WARNING FOR THE KING KILLER CHRONICLE BY PATRICK ROTHFUSS *

Kvothe is a very smart, very talented, very magical character who is also a very good singer and very good looking. However, the narrator informs us that Kvothe is also a very talented jack-off artist (his words not mine). He can apparently whack off around 4 times in a night: a number that puts even the most seasoned self-lover to shame.

I haven't read a character like that before, and haven't read many characters since that are as sexually active as the average college student.

What's the most refreshing thing you've ever seen an author do?

[Edit] Holy crap this blew up! Thank you so much for the awards, everyone is so nice in this sub!!!

[2nd Edit] If you're looking for something with a similar vibe, might I suggest checking out the story posted in the sub every couple of weeks? It's a very unique take on a lot of common fantasy elements, and one of the most entertaining stories that I've read in a long time.

[3rd Edit] For those of you who haven't read The King Killer Chronicle yet and are interested: Do it! It's an absolutely fantastic read, with one of the most interesting magic systems and a story that's unlike any other that I've ever read.
