I got my apartment management job climbing the career ladder in my field difficult. I had been working as an assistant apartment manager for a few months when the property manager left suddenly and they promoted me to property manager.

They offered me a $2,000 stipend per month to live on site at the property and also paid for my utilities.

I thought it would be a lot of work, but it is not. I have a small team of people who work at the property and we team up to accomplish tasks. Sometimes I would be called after hours to give someone a key and the like, but overall it wasn't a lot of work.

Right now, I am making $45,000 a year as a property manager and get to save $24,000 per year with the stipend. If I had to pay for my own apartment, utilities, and other things, I would have been really struggling to make ends meet.

If you are having trouble climbing the career ladder and want to save money, consider working as an apartment manager.

Edit: I'm getting a lot of comments about maintenance and cleaning work. I have a full time maintenance person and a full time maintenance contractor, as well as a full time custodian, a part time custodian, and a part time porter. I also hire people to do repairs to the maintenance staff are not overworked. I do things like manage the budget, get the owners to approve big expenses, handle resident issues so you don't have to evict, and other office work.
