I have been trying to live as minimalist as possible for the last 10 months. I have never been more broke or in debt.

I have literally spent thousands of dollars trying to live more minimalist.

I’ve spent hundreds on a minimalist desk setup because my old set up wasn’t good enough.

Thousands on cooking because now I cook all of my food.

Hundreds on a hiking backpack.

Now I don’t think minimalist is meant to be this way. To go broke. I’ve broke so many rules of minimalism by spending thousands of dollars to live this way. It just seems so ridiculous now.

I don’t know if anyone else has had this same experience as me, but I just find it insane. I just spent hundreds of dollars on bedsheets because I wanted the 100% cotton kind. The cotton is a good material but it was just so expensive. I spent over $100 on 2 pillows, a blanket, and 2 bedsheets.

I also bought a cutting board because I didn’t wanna eat off of disposable plates anymore. But the cutting board was expensive.

I still use disposable cups. I just can’t spend anymore. I wanna buy a waterbottle but I know I’ll just end up spending too much money.

I just don’t understand how this works. I’m broke and living $10,000 in debt. Most of that is from student loans but still. I don’t get how everyone can spend so much money on these minimalist things and have the money to back it up.

Is it just me or does everyone else struggle with this?

Edit: just for clarity, whenever I say I’ve spent hundreds or thousands, it’s all over time. It’s not like I just spent $1000 on a desk. It’s that I’ve spent $1000 over maybe 5 months on a desk and equipment. I’m not just spending money wildly. Also, I’m not a minimalist. I was just trying to live as minimalist as possible.
