My dead mother tried to save me

I haven't shared my amazing dead mother with many people outside of my family before so forgive me if this isn't very good. I wrote a similar thing on a different site but I don't think I've shared this here before

It was 2013, I was living with two friends, Jo and Steve, in Manchester, England. We had an unusual house. It was a thin dark terrace with a long drive way and four houses. We lived at the end on house 1. Backing us up was a road, with the only way to the other houses was a gate. It was in a rough area. At the time I was out of work and looking for jobs, Jo was a student and Steve a chef.

We had been living there for a year and a half at this point. I was always home when Jo and Steve weren't, so I did the gardening and the cleaning. Stuff like that. I loved nothing more than me some fresh air and water. It was always sunny too, so when Jo and Steve came home from work, they'd tell me to go have a drink and watch some telly.

I lived in the basement. No full window, just a half window high up. I had a PS2, a TV and a few games. I always loved coming home and chilling in my room. In my room I had a little double glazed window. One day I was on my computer when I felt a presence. I looked to my left and I thought it was my friend Jo. I had always been able to sense my family. I would always know when they were near. I didn't feel scared when I saw her, I assumed she'd come home early and was checking on me. So I replied to her "I'm fine thanks" and looked away.

I felt a tap on my shoulder and I looked and she was where I was sat. She looked upset. She said to me "I'm sorry" I asked her what she meant. She said "I'm sorry I left you, I never meant to. I thought Steve would be home. I never meant to hurt you"

She was dead, she died in childbirth with me. I clearly remember looking at the window. She could see it was closed, I could tell she wanted out but she couldn't fit. I felt an urge to go outside. The back door in my room was locked, it had been jammed for a while. Without saying a word I got up and went outside. Straight away I felt a breeze and heard the back door scraping against the floor. I went in the back door and it suddenly it stopped.

I had no idea what was going on but my mum had gone. Jo told me we needed to check the house. We went round and checked all the rooms. Then she had a look on her face. I said "what's wrong?" She said "Steve is in the attic, he's been dead for 2 days" Jo went upstairs and investigated. She found a tape. No one has ever seen it but it was a guy threatening to kill us all. He wanted to be the grounds keeper for the other houses. We didn't know this at the time but Jo's dad was the grounds keeper.

Steve and Jo put up cameras around the house and found the guy. He was a squatter who lived in a house nearby, he was on the run from the police. We called the police and they came to the house. When they arrested him they found a dead body in the boot of his car. He had killed Jo's dad and was trying to get to us. He was killed in prison for his crimes.

That is the only time I have ever seen my mum. But she saved us all. I don't tell this story very often as I don't know if people will believe me. But I know that my mum did a great thing. I had always wondered why I didn't feel her around me all the time. Why I couldn't sense her. It's because she was busy looking after me.
