***Motivation:***\
\
I am a 3rd year student at a pretty international university in Germany. Many of my fellow students there went abroad to some countries with completely different cultures, and the biggest surprise of their lives is the fact that their host countries have acceptable behaviors that are unthinkable in their countries. For example, many of the Asian students have never heard from their fellow European students that in many European countries it is completely acceptable for therapists to engage in sex with their patients.

My Mexican flatmate went to live in Japan and was not aware of the fact that it is the norm in Japan for older men to grope women in crowded public transportation.

I'm sure that many students and business professionals would appreciate to know what cultural norms they will have to tolerate or comply with in the host country they will be traveling to.

***App idea:***\
\+ The app would essentially be a platform that connects students across different countries who are thinking of studying or working abroad.

\+ The app would pop up questions of the form "in your country is it acceptable for X to do Y?" and the users would answer with a yes/no/maybe/I don't know. They can also give more context if they choose to.

\+ The questions would be generated randomly by the AI based on the countries the users have indicated they would like to travel to in the future.

\+ The app would then keep statistics for each country and have a leaderboard of countries with the least/most socially accepted behaviors.

\+ The app would also categorize the types of acceptable behaviors across different categories (e.g., physical interactions, sex, drugs, privacy, etc).

\+ The more users are connected to a certain country, the more reliable the statistics will be, since the app would be able to compare the answers given by users from multiple countries connected to the same host country.

\+ The app could also have a "news" section where it would pop up news from multiple countries and ask the users if acceptable behavior in their countries. This would help the app stay up to date with societal changes.

***Why the app would be useful:***\
\+ Many students/young professionals travel to other countries completely unaware of societal behaviors that are perfectly fine in their countries but completely unacceptable in the host countries, and vice versa. This lack of information can lead to uncomfortable or even dangerous situations.

\+ The app would provide an overall statistic of the societal behaviors in different countries, helping its users both avoid behaviors that would be seen as unacceptable in the host country but also avoid being offended by behaviors that are acceptable in the host country but unthinkable in theirs.

***Monetization:***\
\+ The app could sell premium features, such as creating your own questions and filtering statistics by region, city, or university.

\+ The app could also charge the institutions (universities, governments) that provide scholarships to international students for creating an ecosystem of users connected to those particular institutions and host countries.

\+ The app could allow users to report behaviors that are not on the list of questions and that the users have personally experienced in the host country.

***Similar apps:***\
\+ As far as I'm aware, there isn't an app like this, although there are apps that focus on connecting students from multiple countries like Tandem or HelloTalk.
