I have no clue how AI image generators became so mainstream

I saw a tweet from some random person in my timeline with two boys, a dog in a skateboard, and a girl open mouthed watching the dog skateboard.

I thought that the picture was weirdly edited until I noticed that the girl was Photoshopped badly.

I asked who took the pic, and the response was "ai" as if it was a person who took the photo.

I can't comprehend how we went from barely anyone knowing or caring about ai to seeing it in every other social media post. How is it so normalized?

I don't visit any ai related websites or have any ai related apps. It's just everywhere.
