This sub is turning into a sociological analysis sub.

This is a plea. I’ve been using this sub for some time now, and it has been very valuable to me. It inspired me to go read some of the main works of philosophy. It gave me a deeper understanding of the world and of myself. Recently, I’ve been seeing more and more threads like “Do we have a duty to help the homeless?”, “How do we judge whether someone is a racist based on their actions, not beliefs?” or “Do we have a duty to work?”.

Now I’m not saying these questions should not be asked or that they don’t pertain to philosophy. But this sub is named “Philosophy”. Not “Political Philosophy, Social Philosophy and Ethics”. And I believe it is supposed to be a space for the discussion of all kinds of philosophical enquiries, not just the ones concerning society. Questions regarding metaphysics, epistemology and aesthetics should also be welcome here in my opinion.

If you go to r/askphilosophy, it is filled with questions pertaining to the existence of God, the mind-body problem and hard solipsism. If you go to r/philosophy, it is filled with questions pertaining to whether you should give your money to the homeless or not.

I think that this sub is slowly turning into more of a sociology sub. Don’t get me wrong, these kinds of questions are very important, but I believe this isn’t the right space for them. I believe that this sub should be more about discussing the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality and values, not only about how we should behave as a society.

So I implore the mods: next time you see a post like one of the ones I mentioned above, please consider removing it and maybe ask the author to post it on a more appropriate sub, like r/AmItheAsshole or r/unpopularopinion. I would very much appreciate that.

Thank you for reading, and sorry for the long post.

Edit: Thank you all for the feedback. I am glad we can have this discussion, and I will continue to read your comments.
