How would a North American empire be different from the US?

The scenario I have in mind is a coalition of Native American tribes forms an empire across the American Southwest and Southeast, driving out white settlers and expelling them to the North. This leads to the formation of a North American empire, with the assumption that American history progressed the exact same way until 1860. What would this North American empire look like?
