I’m in a public high school in a low SES area.

When do we get to express outrage over what we do on a daily basis?

When do we get to express that we are tired of being spat on, cursed at, slapped, kicked, hit, thrown against lockers, and physically attacked?

When do we get to express outrage over the fact that we are expected to be in the arms of these students in an active shooter situation? In the arms of the very kids that have been violent towards us? The very kids that we don’t get to protect ourselves from?

When do we get to express outrage that we are doing the job of a mental health counselor, a social worker, a substitute parent, and a teacher??

When do we get to express outrage over the fact that parents won’t pick up their kids that are in crisis at school when we call them multiple times??? When we have to call 911 because parents won’t come to the school but will show up to the hospital??

When do we get to express outrage that parents won’t respond to email, phone calls, texts, or skywriting about the needs of their kids?

When do we get to express outrage over the fact that we have to feed kids because they haven’t eaten since “breakfast” at school at 7am?

When do we get to express outrage that as mental health issues have exploded, teacher training in mental health has exploded, but access to actual mental health workers in schools has gone down??

When do we get to express outrage over the fact that we are expected to do everything but teach because so many students are in crisis and have trauma and are in need of basic survival needs being met?

When do we get to express outrage that we are doing everything for everyone else, including in school suspension, lunch duty, hall monitoring, club monitoring, tutoring, and sponsoring, but no one thinks about our needs and what we might need to function??

When do we get to express outrage that we are expected to smile and be Peaches and Cream to parents, administration, students, and the public at large, while inside we want to puke??

When do we get to express outrage??????
