CMV: Millennials in general are far too apathetic towards voting and politics to the extent that it harms the world and instead will rely on incessant preaching to self appointed echo chambers

I have two main reasons to support this view. The first is that voter turnout for Millennials in the US tends to be poor, even in high stakes elections that affect younger people more than they do older generations. In the 2016 presidential election, only 51% of eligible Millennials voted in the election, and only 43% voted in 2012. The election that really proves the lack of priority Millennials place on voting however was the 2014 midterm elections, where only 22% of eligible Millennials voted. This was a sharp decline in both raw numbers and as a percentage compared to the presidential elections in 2012, and the 2010 midterm elections. This decline in voting compared to any election that isn’t a presidential election is more frequently seen in younger people. The second is that I think Millennials tend to have a horrible attitude towards people who don’t share their political viewpoints. I have seen people openly boast about unfriending and blocking people who don’t share their politics after they have been forced to vote for someone they didn’t want to vote for. Millennials for the most part tend to be more open to new social norms and ideas such as feminism, civil rights for transgender people, and climate change, things that we need to implement, however when you block yourself and your viewpoints off from the rest of the world and refuse to even talk to people who don’t already share your ideologies, then talking about voting and voting itself is nothing more than an exercise in self congratulatory narcissism.

[Edit]: Thank you /u/switchfox22 for the gold!
