I actually pay for the yearly subscription to Evernote and have it synced across all my devices: I use it for my grocery list, keeping track of my yearly goals, and what I need to accomplish in the next 6 months. I also have a note for long term goals (10+ years!)

I see a lot of posts on this sub that make you wonder how people get anything done. "How do I not forget to brush my teeth?" "How do I keep track of my appointments?"

I pay $60 a year for my Evernote subscription. This lets me keep multiple notebooks synced across all my devices. I have a notebook for long-term goals (10+ years), my grocery list, things I need to accomplish in the next 6 months, my yearly goals, and yearly goals broken down into smaller steps. I also have a note for what I need to accomplish this week. I check this note at least twice a day every day, cross things off the list when they're done, and move tasks up to the 6 month timeline when I'm done with them.

I think the thing that makes people in this sub confused is that they don't have the same skills as people my age (38) when it comes to writing things down. Literally every single appointment I have is written down in my Passion Planner. I don't rely on the Reminders app to remind me of shit I need to do or my Apple Calendar to remind me of appointments. I cross off my appointments on my calendar when they happen. I also update my Apple Calendar if an appointment is moved up or pushed back. I keep track of my period on both my Passion Planner and my Apple Calendar. It isn't fucking hard to keep track of your period. I've been doing it for over 25 years. I also write down my mood swings and symptoms next to the days I've marked off for my period.

I don't rely on Reminders for anything. I don't rely on my calendar for appointments. I don't rely on Asana or Trello or any of those other apps. My reminders are for shit I only need to do one time. My Apple Calendar is redundant so that I don't lose everything if I get in an accident. (I carry a small notebook with me for brainstorming and tracking when I'm out for a walk, but it's not for keeping track of appointments or checking shit off.)

I have the same routine every night when I go to bed: I track how many steps I got that day, track what I ate that day, what I need to do tomorrow for work, and what I need to accomplish that week. Sometimes I write down notes for the next day if I need to do something before work. Sometimes I'll update my goals or my grocery list. In the morning, I actually make my bed. I make sure I don't get into my pajamas until I'm ready for bed. I change into my work clothes as soon as I wake up. I take a shower the night before work so my hair is dry in the morning and I'm not in a hurry to go to work. My coffee pot is programmed to start 30 minutes before I wake up. I don't hit the snooze button. I drink a full glass of water before drinking my coffee. Sometimes I'll drink a full glass of water and then give myself 10 minutes before drinking my coffee. I don't scroll through my phone until after I've had my coffee. I also have the setting on my phone where it lets me know how much time is left before the alarm rings.

I don't have to deal with the whole "am I this or am I that?" question because I don't think of things in terms of labels. I actually pay attention to my actions and my habits. If I'm doing something regular, I make sure to form a habit around it. Doing this has helped me get to work on time, reliably see my friends and family, and never miss a day where I should be doing something. I also make sure to give myself time to do things: I don't buy the fastest router or the fastest internet. I buy the most reliable router and the best bang-for-my-buck internet. I don't waste my time on TikTok or Reddit. I allow myself time to scroll through my phone, but I put limits on how much time I waste. It's also not the fucking router or fucking Apple's fault that your shit runs slow. I work in the IT field and I've spent the last 12 years actually figuring out what goes wrong and how to fix it. It isn't the router, it's your wireless mesh network. It isn't Apple, it's that you bought a MacBook Air.

I don't think it's fair to call my habits "weird" or "not normal". I actually get shit done. I actually go places. I actually do things. I have friends and family and a career. I'm actually capable of bettering myself when I make mistakes. What is weird is relying on your phone or your computer to keep you on track. What is weird is not having a Passion Planner or a journal to write in. What is weirder is not knowing how to track your period or forgetting yearly appointments. What is weirder is having a special disorder that requires Asana or Trello. What is weird is being lazy and wasting your time on TikTok or Chambers instead of actually doing something.
