If you can’t claim to be a minimalist, is there a word for someone who is trying to?

I’ve known for a long time that minimalism is the best choice for me, and I was raised in a minimalist household. But I’ve realized that isn’t really the case any more. I’m probably 3-5 years away from being able to call myself a minimalist. With my current situation and what I have now, I could realistically stay where I am for 3 years. I just want to know what the word is for this. I claim to be a minimalist, but if I’m not one yet then what would I call myself? I am not sure if there isn’t a word for this. I claim to be a minimalist because I have made a choice to cut back on my non necessities, so maybe there just isn’t a word for it and I can claim the term. To me, the term is hard to claim if you still have a lot of stuff and you’re not living a minimalist lifestyle. Like, would claim to be a vegetarian if you are still eating meat? Even if you are trying to stop eating meat?

TLDR:
Is there a word for someone who claim to be a minimalist, but are not yet living the lifestyle.
