UPDATE- I dumped him. He ended up sending me a 40 minute text that said I’m a hater and I’m jealous because he’s not a drone. I’m moving on and realizing we were never compatible.

aaaand back to the original post is

My boyfriend is fixated on saving money but refuses to work/lives with his mom, and spends his money on gaming. I’m a little annoyed and I don’t understand why what he’s doing is a good idea, and he’s very stubborn about it. He’s smart and a very rational person. He sees this as the way to save money to reach his financial goals 1-4 years down the line, but he’s also not making any money now. I don’t understand how he’s supporting himself or how he’s planning on supporting himself in the future. He gets a small amount of money from disability for having ADHD but it’s not enough to live off of. He definitely doesn’t have any money saved up, and I’m confused as to why he thinks this is fixable. I’ve told him my point of view on this and he thinks I’m just a “hater” and I don’t understand the “frugal movement”. I’ve tried to explain to him that being frugal is saving money on the essential but also working and also spending some money on things that bring joy. (He’s fixated on saving money but he also fixated on gaming and doesn’t do anything else) I’ve tried to explain that living with mom at 23 is not ideal, and that I don’t understand how he’s supporting himself, but he just admits that yeah he’s not supporting himself, but in a few years he will be. Does anyone know what this mindset is? I don’t get it.
