Annoying parent question

Annoying parent question and my probably overblown reaction is why I write this post.

I teach 5th grade and we are having virtual parent-teacher conferences for all students at the end of this semester. This is a new thing for us.

Annoying parent question that has happened in half of my conferences so far: Do you like my child?

Like... how do I answer this? I am a robot, so I do not have feelings... but probably not? Like, your kid is annoying and I can't stand them... but probably? I love your child... lol no I don't.

I just say "I like your child" and then they elaborate and I can usually navigate the conversation...

But it is super annoying to be asked that question by so many parents. I could have said something super minor and innocuous that I didn't even realize I said and the parents are going to think I don't like their kid? Annoying.

Annoying.

Annoying.
