I saw a woman get in a fight and then she jumped into a lagoon

I’m on a plane and flying over the Adriatic Sea. My route is Rome to Venice. I stared out the window as we flew over the water with rocks jutting out just a few feet above the sea. The view was a stunning combination of turquoise and emerald green with small white sailboats and yachts dotting the Adriatic Sea.

The water was smooth in most places, but there was one patch where I saw white water with each wave. It was mostly isolated in this one spot, with calm waters surrounding it. I wondered what could cause the waves in that one spot to be so choppy.

Suddenly, I saw a woman jump off the rocky wall of the coast and into the lagoon. She swam a few feet and then got out and made her way back to the shore. She then went up to the woman who was picking berries and started arguing with her. Then she punched her in the face and a few in the chest. The woman with the berries didn’t flinch much and only threw one punch, which landed. Then they both went in opposite directions.

As I continued watching, I couldn’t help but think about how incredible it is to be seeing this surreal moment from 30,000 feet in the sky. The woman who was punched stared back at the woman with the berries for a while and I thought she might charge at her and continue the fight. But she just turned around and left.

I felt a pang of sadness as I wondered if that was some sort of last straw moment for the woman who got punched. But then I thought, “maybe this is just life for them.”

I’ve been to Italy several times, but I had never seen that spot before and this time I was on a flight from Rome to Venice. I wonder how often the woman gets into fights. Is it a normal occurrence for them to get into fistfights over whatever they are arguing about? Do they go about their days picking berries and jumping into the lagoon and then have a fistfight every now and then, or is this just a one time thing I happened to be watching from 30,000 feet?

I won’t know anything else about this moment of observation from 30,000 feet and the dynamic between the two women. But it’s clear that a lot of passion is involved in whatever they are doing to each other.
