CMV: The concept of Individualism is a lie in the modern world

First of all, I want to clarify that I am not a Communist or Socialist, and that I am deeply in favor of free enterprise and the capitalist system. I also want to note that I am from a Latin American country, so Individualism might be weighted differently here.<br><br>I do believe that the modern concept of Individualism is a psuedo utopium that lies to most people, except the wealthy. Individualism is deeply tied to the idea of meritocracism, which implies that the entire system is deeply fair and that success can be achieved my anyone who wants it bad enough. It lies to everyone, telling them that they can do anything as long as they put in the hard work and effort.<br><br>But that is not the case. On my job, I see everyday how the system fucks people who only want to work and provide for their families. People who are barely making ends meet who are forced to take second or third jobs to provide for their families, to make enough money to feed their children, to pay for medicine or treatment. I see how the lack of healthcare fucks people who have worked their entire life, who end up on the streets because they cannot afford treatment or medicine.<br><br>Individualism also always shifts the burden on the poor. It will always say that it is their fault why they are there, whether it is because they did not study enough or had low ambitions. It will always show you how someone can climb the social ladder through hard work, and that those examples can be applied to anyone, to any situation. It will always say that it's the poor's fault for not working hard enough.<br><br>Individualism is psuedo utopium because it only works for a select few. For everyone else, it is just a lie. It is a way to keep the status quo, to keep the haves wealthy and the have nots poor. It is an illusion of freedom, of choice.
