Let's talk about guns and kids

I had someone PM me and ask about guns and kids. I'm going to give the cliff notes version here because I'm a huge dumbass and accidentally deleted our entire PM exchange and I'm sure I'm missing some stuff.

First off, I'm not a kid friendly person. I do not like kids. I will say, however, that if you're going to have them, you treat them right. I have three kids, and two of them are the most patient and respectful fucking people on the planet. Number three is 6 and is currently a little shit. I keep him on a short leash because he's too young to be trusted.

Onto the Q&A:

1. Q: It sounds like you keep two safes, the one in the basement for the small stuff and the armory for everything else, correct?

A: No. I have one true safe that houses everything. I use gun locks on the long guns. The "armory" is an unlicensed gun cabinet in the basement to house and display my guns. It's locked, but I wouldn't call it a safe.

2. Q: How do you keep your larger guns locked? I want to keep the guns locked when unlicensed, but I don't know what to use.

A: Snap locks around the action. This is the best thing I've found. I have one around the mag tube of my M4 and one around the charging handle.

3. Q: What happens if an unsafe firearm is used, and an injury/death occurs?

A: It depends on the municipality. In my case, it would be a felony with a 2-5 sentence. For reference, if you're careless with your firearms, I think you shouldn't own them anymore anyways. Seen too many fucking idiots fuck around with loaded/unloaded guns. I would turn in my own kids if they were that careless.

4. Q: What is the best way to teach kids to be safe and respectful?

A: Education. Positive reinforcement. In my case, let my kids fucking play with the equipment. The youngest one will only be trusted with a BB gun for the foreseeable future, but he knows what he's fucking doing with it and is very patient and gentle with it.

There's a gun show near me, and it's something my kids really like going to. They like to pick up the guns, see how they work, and fucking get educated on the equipment. If you're going to have kids and guns, keep them educated. Keep them fucking safe. Most importantly, KEEP THEM RESPECTFUL. I'd rather have a kid be able to unload and lock a firearm in a second than be able to fucking aim a toy gun at someone.

Finally, this is for everyone else, not just my PM buddy: Letting your kids play with fucking toy guns is one of the most fucking stupid things in the world. Sure, they're made of plastic and are "not real guns", but the point is they still look like guns. What is your kid taught to do when they see a real gun? DO NOT TOUCH. FUCKING LEAVE IT ALONE. DO NOT POINT GUNS AT ANYONE. YOU CARRY GUNS WITH THE MUZZLE UP. YOU DO NOT SHOOT AT ANYTHING YOU'RE NOT GOING TO EAT. YOU FUCKING RESPECT GUNS. YOU CARRY A GUN LIKE YOU CARRY YOUR DICK: WITH PRIDE AND FUCKING RESPECT.

Anyways, keep the questions coming, and I'll do my best to answer them. Thanks, and stay safe.

EDIT: Listen, I don't care if you like kids or not, but there is no reason to be disrespectful to someone else's children. It's not their fault their parents reproduced, and if you have something to say about my kids, you can go fuck yourself.
