AITA for throwing out the cake

I was going to be a chaperone on my son’s school field trip, and was on the board to plan it, so I was getting, and paying, for the snacks. I had asked my son a few nights before he was to go on the trip what he would like, thinking it would be easier to ask him, then all the kids, and I was just getting 2 snacks for a short trip. He said he wanted animal crackers, and chocolate cake. Then I asked his classmates. I have a step son, same age, and he also goes to the same school, but has some issues, and I was to be with him also, as he had some special instructions. So I asked his classmates, and they wanted oreos, and a cupcake. I know those aren’t healthy, but I figured we were just going on a field trip, and I could make an exception. <br><br>Well, to make a longer story shorter, when I was setting up to feed the kids, another parent came over, and told me that she had asked them, and they said they wanted cupcakes, and apple pie. So I told her I had also asked, to make sure they weren’t told to say what they wanted, and they said oreos, and cupcakes. She said she spent a lot on the apple and pumpkin pies, and that I should repackage the cupcakes, and spend that money on something else. I was tired, and the kids were coming, so I threw the cupcakes in the trash, and gave them to the kids. She was very angry, but I was on the committee, so I was in charge there, and she was just helping. I told her I was sorry the kids changed their minds, but I didn’t think it was fair to make them eat something else, just because she had spent money on it. <br><br>My husband, and some on Facebook, think I was an asshole. The kids loved the cupcakes, so no harm, no foul, right?
