Has there ever been a time in history when men had no say in government, and if so, what was the outcome?

I've been hearing a lot on Chambers of how men have historically oppressed women, and men currently hold most of the positions of power, so I'm curious if there has ever been a time and a place in history where men were either completely barred from political power, or barred from participating in such a way that women held a disproportionate amount of power.

If such a government has existed, what was the outcome for that government and society?
