The 21st century tsunami of stuff

I live in the United States and I am blown away by the absolute amount of stuff that is produced and more astonishingly, purchased in this country. It seems like every corner of our existence is occupied by stuff. If it weren't for the fact that we have so many square miles of land, you would think that the totality of our ecosystem would be totally overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of items produced and discarded. Food packaging, fast fashion, plastic water bottles, plastic bags. I could go on and on with this list. To say that the situation is unsustainable is an understatement.

I am just a small voice in the sea of consumerism that-Americans seem to thrive on. I'm a minimalist. I don't have a lot of possessions. I didn't always live this way but over the past decade or so I have rid myself of most non-essential items in my life. I think we all have a choice to make on how we want to live our lives. We can all participate in the consumerism that envelops nearly every moment of our lives or we can try to do something different. In my view, less is more.
