When SARS hit in 2003, I was an intern at a large hospital. I had to spend 14 isolation days at home without pay.

While I was sick, my bank called me to tell me that I had a $150 overdraft on my card. I told them that I didn't have any income so I couldnt pay them back. They threatened to cancel my credit card if I don't pay up. I had to beg them to decrease the amount I had to pay back so that I can make ends meet.

Flash forward to today. There is an article that came out today that doctors have to pay out of pocket for masks and other PPE or get fired if they don't adhere to "the rules".

The article also mentions that "hospitals have threatened disciplinary action if staff use their own personal protective equipment or the hospital’s supply in a way that wasn’t authorized by administrators."

There is also evidence out there that "nursing homes and assisted living facilities are requiring sick employees to continue coming to work."

The federal government has also ruled that "EMTs, paramedics and other EMS workers are not entitled to workers’ compensation if they contract the coronavirus on the job"

What kind of country are we? First responders and healthcare workers who acquire COVID-19 are given zero legal protections. They can be forced out of work, and fired if they don't comply with the rules.
