I'm so glad schools aren't back in session yet because the parents in my area are acting like assholes

I am an elementary music teacher and while my school district has decided to close until April 13, we aren't getting paid if we aren't working. I have been trying to find babysitting jobs to help pay for my bills.

I've gotten about five calls/texts from parents saying they need someone to watch their kids while they continue to work and that they need someone "trustworthy" to watch them because they don't want to send them to just anyone. I totally get that.

Then they ask when I am free to start babysitting and I tell them that I am available at the end of April. They literally laugh in my face and say, "I need someone NOW!!!" and then just hang up the phone.

I just don't get it. I am a teacher. I am trained in CPR. I am a supervisor for our district in the summer when we have our summer school program. I am a trustworthy person. I will babysit your kids...at the end of April.

It just irks me that A: parents are expected to continue to work while schools are closed and B: that parents don't give one single shit about the safety and well-being of us teachers.

Sorry, rant is over.
