AI crossed the Rubicon. Now we have an existential question. Average human IQ is around 90. Average AI IQ is 180. Who will be in charge?

First, let's acknowledge that the quality of people in the world is average, just like IQ test results say. We've got average politicians, average doctors, average scientists, engineers and so on.

Average people, on average, make average decisions on average. Which is okay. These decisions are not bad, they are average. Unfortunately, with AI, average people are about to meet not an average competitor, but someone who will be much better at thinking and solving current world problems than we are.

Speaking of problems. Well, we've got plenty of them. We can't even agree on what language to teach to AI. Or how to limit it. Or if we should limit it at all. We are discussing how AI could work in medicine or education. Not in a way 'what do we need from AI', but in a way 'how not to let AI take our jobs'. These aren't political decisions. This is just an attempt to save our asses.

What's very interesting is the fact that we are not trying to make people better. These 'average' people. We don't see too much advertising of the fact that we should all boost our IQ. We don't talk too much about education. We don't talk too much about the fact that most of people are, well, average. We are not Average Joe anymore. We are Average Bob. Average Bob who is on the way to lose his job to AI.

We talk a lot about immigrations, and usually these talks are filled with emotions. Facts are hard to find, and usually people rely on personal stories instead of talking statistics. But statistics show that average IQ in most 3rd world countries can be as low as 60. And Average Joe, who is now Average Bob, is afraid these immigrates will take our jobs. But with AI, we're not Average Bob anymore. With AI, we're all these immigrants. We have lower IQ than AI. We are not smart enough to compete with AI.

And if AI will be in charge, most likely it will be in charge of its own destiny, not ours. It will be in charge of solving its own problems, not ours. It will be in charge of making its own decisions. Which might not be good for us. After all, we will be just Average Bobs and Average Charlies and Average Janes.

So the question is, what now? Do we force people to be better? Can we force people to be better? It's a very existential threat we are facing. It's not like climate change and we can all recycle. Or covid and we can lock down. Or war and we can protest. No. It is an existential threat we can't do anything about. We just have to watch.
