A former Walmart asset protection associate.

I used to work as a greeter to start with, and I was friends with the people in the asset protection department... After about four months of being a greeter, the manager came up and asked me if I would be willing to work as an asset protection associate... I thought that meant security... I was in for a rude awakening...

Long story short, I quit after about a month... They paid me 10 an hour to watch people steal, and catch shoplifters... And the last straw was when I caught a woman with 30 condoms, 2 pairs of scissors, and a lighter... She said she was using the scissors to cut with and the condoms to smoke heroin out of... She had 5 kids at home and she was 35 years old... I personally let her go, I couldn't with good conscience have her arrested and have her kids lose their mother because she was trying to cope with her poor life... I quit right there on the spot...

Their protocol is to detain anyone who has anything valued over 5 dollars, and anyone with anything stolen who had prior convictions... But let me tell you, if you're caught with anything under 10 dollars you have a good change of just getting let go... The police don't even bother showing up for people who get caught with stuff under 10 dollars...

Like I said, I worked at a Walmart... But I imagine that may very because different stores have different policies and protocols... But that's just my experience...
