I teach a half credit for high school seniors, on writing a personal statement. We start in September, and end with a peer reviewed essay next April. I think this community would be a great resource for them, especially on line.

I know my generation of writing instructors consider our students too tender for feedback from people who are not their teachers. I’m trying to move forward on this, but I believe in your community. What are some ways you live your best lives? How do you make your feedback useful? I want my students to do well.

Edit: you may not have a particularly tender student population. That’s cool.

Edit 2: I have to take a nap before work, my toddler has supper with his bubbe on Monday nights. When I wake up, I’ll be reading your comments with a snack, and on the phone with students who are doing exceptionally well.

Edit 3: I’m running on the treadmill with an app that mimics walking on a treadmill as fast as possible. I’ve had half a glass of wine and screwing up my tendons in the gym sounds like the perfect ending. For all of you who answered, thank you so much. I’m prepping to take my students here next term and all of your advice is invaluable. I’m on the phone with the students and on my desk are all of your answers, so I can tell them that you are their go-to people.
