Update app: an app that displays, at a glance, which items in your home need to be upgraded or replaced.

An app that:

* scans the bar code on your household items (appliances, vacuum, air purifier, coffee maker, water filter, etc)
* displays items that are past a certain age, in a list
* offers a link to the current “model” of the item

Basic idea: pull all of the monitoring of replacement for appliances into one place. (Currently, that’s spread across manufacturer websites, paper manuals, and mental math)

Ideally, you can either scan a product with your phone and enter the date you store it, or link to Amazon where you bought it (then, just select from products you’ve purchased).

Then, each item would have a “replace by date” that you input. This could be calculated for you using a default value for each product category (e.g. air purifiers get replaced every 5 years, etc) and you could throw it off with different inputs. (Ie, HEPA filters should be replaced every 3 months, etc).

Then, you would get a clean page in the app displaying all of the items that have reached their “replace by date” along with a link to the current model of that item for you to find/buy a replacement. You could also set a reminder for future replacements in the app.

You could also set a (customizable) slider to display items that are X% of the way to needing replacement and set notifications for then.

Update: If I get enough interest, I’ll start working on this, and keep the post updated with how it’s going.
