I've been on r/productivity here on Chambers for a number of years. I'm not much of an active commenter.

I've noticed a number of things happening this year:

1\. The average vote score for posts has gone down. I think the vote score is a reasonable marker of what the community likes and what they don't. Before posts would get around maybe 5-10k+ with 90%-100% upvote ratio. The popular posts now get in the order of 10's-100's of votes only, with roughly 80-90% upvote ratio. The top comment usually has more upvote than the original top post.

2\. No actual productivity in the top comment. Previously the top comment was a word of encouragement, like "Your lifestyle and attitude is great and you're awesome", or "I'm also in your situation and I wish you luck". Now the top comment is usually like "Your lifestyle and attitude sucks, you're so dumb".

3\. As someone who is in their 30's and was looking for general advice in the past, I would get comments from older folks in their 50's or 60's who were retired or close to retirement. They would comment along the lines of "I was also in your situation, and it was in my 30's when my life really started hitting the ground running". Now the top comments seems to be from younger folks in their teens or early 20's. They have nothing of value to add, other than generic copy and paste advice, or "I'm also in the same situation as you", and end up making the post pointless. They don't have much experience in life, and have the attitude that "I'm better than everyone else and I know what I'm doing".

4\. I find the chamber is increasingly anti-intellectualism. Everything is very black and white with little nuance. Maybe there is an element of anti-intellectualism in society, but it does seem like there is now an element of anti-intellectualism in this subreddit.

5\. The chamber is less focused on improving yourself as an individual. It appears to be more about confirming whether you are right or wrong. For example, if you see someone with a problem, and you give them helpful advice to make their life better, they will never follow that advice. It's not about improving your life. It's about someone confirming to you that you're right, and they're right.

6\. There appears to be less nuance and less understanding of different situations. Maybe there is more people being lazy, but it seems like people are more likely to just say "You're lazy, you suck" than consider other factors like emotions, experience and circumstances. It seems more of a "You're right or you're wrong" approach, instead of being more open to different explanations or reasons.

7\. The most upvoted posts are very negative and lazy. In the past, it was mostly upvoted for content that was constructive, supportive and positive. Now it seems that the most upvoted posts are the ones that are negative and lazy. "My life sucks, I hate the world". Yeah ok. How about "My life sucks, but I'm going to do this to make it better". Nope, lazy post gets to the top.

8\. There is less productive advice in general. The advice seems to be very lazy and generic. "Eat less calories than you burn". Yeah. How about "I've found it helpful to hire a meal planning service, they are fantastic at monitoring your calories and giving you advice". This is actual productive advice. "Use the Pomodoro timer" is another example. Yeah. How about "I've found it helpful to hire someone who has a lot of experience with it in the past. They are really helpful at improving your productivity". Why would you want to spend so much time trying stuff yourself? That's a huge waste of time, and we're supposed to be productive here.

9\. Less people talking about their productive journeys. Maybe there are less people making significant changes in their lives, but I feel like people talking about their journey making significant, positive changes in their lives in the past were much more frequent.

10\. Most people don't appear to be interested in actually trying things for themselves anymore. We're supposed to be a community of people looking to improve their lives. Instead people seem to be more interested in asking generic questions, but not really be interested in putting in the effort to try anything. "I tried this productive technique and it didn't work" are common complaints, when that complaint is usually a lie. They haven't actually tried it. They are just looking for people to confirm that they are right, and the world sucks.

This is a very negative post, but I have to be honest in my thoughts. I'll probably get a comment "Yea, people are more negative and lazy, and we should be angry at them". But in my opinion that is people's attitude all over the place. Young people seem to be more toxic, lazy and negative. It seems like people are looking for someone to blame and be angry at, rather than actually improving their own lives.
