The fear and anxiety in South Korea as of Friday afternoon

We did a road trip in Vietnam, and I’m getting into Seoul at 5am this morning. I had a long day with no sleep and was fumbling through check in at the airport for a ticket, and the self serve ticket machine kept flashing different screens in korean and english. The airport employee at the ticket counter asked if I was in difficulty, and I told her I had no problem, I just needed 30 seconds. I smiled at her, and she refused, and fumbled with the self serve ticket. The ticket came out, and I tried to walk to the gate, and she blocked me, and started yelling at me because I took the ticket without permission of the ticket counter employee. She did this in front of her manager, and a crowd of people boarding a flight. I was standing there unmoving, in fear that if I moved I would be tackled to the ground. She did this for twenty minutes, and she finally gave me a ticket to get my boarding pass. I was smiling as I walked away, and she started telling other employees in South Korean, to come check my fanny pack and shins. I’m trying to get my boarding pass, and two airport employees marched over to me, and touched me and started talking to each other in South Korean. The airport employee who did this stood at the gate, and smiled at me. This doesn’t make me fear the Corona Virus, it makes me fear this fear. I’m from Canada, and I didn’t have a fever. Anyone else having craziness from the Corona Virus? I tend to be easy going, and this did not make me feel good. What’s South Korea doing in this situation? People are wearing masks, but the check in process is so even more crazy. It’s a big airport, but there were 3 employees checking ID’s. I thought it was a service desk, and I’ve been in Asia for three months, and everything is either in English, or there are translations. I just spent 6 days at a swimming beach in Vietnam, and I had no idea if it was the Corona Virus season or not. It’s the dry season, so no idea. Thank you.

Edit: The fear is real, and it’s changing the culture. I’m glad I posted this, and I was not expecting these messages. I was genuinely curious about the fear of COVID. In the past, I was curious about car accidents, heart disease, diabetes, cancer. We live in a world where we die everyday, but we are so lucky to be alive, even if we don’t have COVID. A friend lost their baby girl to a heart defect in Thailand, and another friend got shot in the head in South Africa. A friend passed away from a car accident in the US, and a friend passed away from stomach cancer. We can take care of ourselves, as we have been since childhood, but we are not the controllers or our destiny. I like this idea of destiny, and I hope we can enjoy the ride of this life. Thank you.
