AITA for refusing to accept my boyfriend’s ex wife’s apology ?

So my boyfriend dog ( Max) is a extremely special and unique dog. He’s an Australian Shepherd with merle coloring and he’s possibly the most beautiful dog I’ve ever laid eyes on. He’s also one of the friendliest dogs in the world. <br><br>Anyway, my boyfriend and his ex got a divorce two years ago. It was a nasty divorce ( I wasn’t there for most of it ) but it ended with my boyfriend’s ex wife— Sarah — refusing to allow my boyfriend to see or know the location of his dog Max. Ever since then, my boyfriend has been absolutely devastated. I met him eight months ago and he was still broken up about it. I urged him to reach out to his ex wife Sarah and she said “ I’ll never let you see you again”. My boyfriend has been absolutely heartbroken. <br><br>Two days ago, my boyfriend got a knock at the door andopened it to find his ex wife standing on the other side of the door, holding the leash to his dog. Max was dirty, skinny, and his fur was matted. Max didn’t seem to recognize my boyfriend but he slowly started to come closer. <br><br>My boyfriend took Max to the vet last night and it turns out that he has arthritis in his neck and many other health problems. We ordered him pain relief medication. <br><br>Sarah called me ( I don’t know how she got my number ) last night and said “ do you want to meet up for coffee— I need to apologize for something”. I said yes. <br><br>This morning I met up with her and she said “ I’m so sorry, I don’t know what I did it. I’ve been having a really rough time”. I told her that I accepted her apology and I said “ thanks for letting him see his dog again”. She said “ I’m going to try to clean up my act”. I said “ that’s nice”. I asked her if she wanted to go for a walk and she said yes. I asked her if she thought my boyfriend would be okay with this and she said “ probably not”. <br><br>She walked with me for a while and then I saw her eyes start to water. I asked her what was wrong and she started crying. I comforted her for about ten minutes and then I said “ you know my boyfriend is really heartbroken”. She said “ I know”. <br><br>I told her that my boyfriend said he wanted nothing to do with her ever again, and then she started crying worse. I said “ I’m sorry Sarah”. I comforted her for another few minutes and then she asked “ you wouldn’t happen to have any— uh, weed on you, would you? “ I said “ yeah” and I gave her some of my boyfriend’s weed. <br><br>The two of us smoked it together for about an hour and then I asked her if she felt any better. She said she did. I said “ good”. And I left. <br><br>I went home and told my boyfriend— who was still cleaning the poop stains off of his dog— what happened. He said “ she doesn’t deserve your sympathy. Fuck off Sarah. I hope you die ”. I said “ wow, that’s a little harsh”. And he said “ no. She let our dog almost die and wouldn’t let me see him for two years. I don’t ever want to—“ And then he screamed at me for the first time “ fuck Sarah. Sarah is a piece of trash. Sarah is a piece of human garbage and she doesn’t deserve any sympathy ever”. And I started crying. I said “ I’m sorry”. He said “ I’m so happy to finally have Max back. Sarah means absolutely nothing to me, I don’t want you to ever talk to her again. She’s dead to me”. I said “ okay”. Max started growling at me.
