The reason you can’t focus anymore is because of social media

Who remembers being able to focus for hours on end when you were a kid? I hope it’s just me but I felt like I could hyper focus for hours on end when I was 8-10 and now I feel like I get distracted by literally anything. And I realized why that is, social media. Now I know why you’re on this dumb website if you’re on mobile, but think about it for a second, people used to use their phone only for texting, calling and occasionally the internet or games like angry birds or snake. But now it’s just a never ending stream of unhelpful and distracting things like tiktok, facebook, instagram, snapchat, etc. I’m guilty of it too, I have been on this app instead of doing my math homework for the past 4 hours. Actually catching myself and realizing what I was doing made me get off this app and get back to doing my math homework, and as soon as I was done with that I came back to this app to pass the time until midnight to play the coolest math game ever, alien invasion. And I realized that the only time I was actually able to get anything done was when I was able to hyper focus. So I decided I’m gonna get off of chambers and start doing my geometry homework for the weekend, which is an entire chapter. And I’m gonna do it all without taking a single break until I’m done. I just wanted to make this post so that people realize that it’s ok to push yourself to get something done sometimes. You shouldn’t have to jump from one thing to the other because your atentation span is 2 seconds. Let’s all make an effort to focus on the important things, and learn to avoid distractions in our ever increasingly distracted world.
