I’m a toddlers teacher. I got a (small) phone at 14 and I got a new one when I was 16. It wasn’t until then that the fancy iPhones came out and all the (small) phones disappeared.

The 3 year olds get their phones from big siblings who then get the new fancy iPhones. Many of the 2 year olds have their own phones.

At circle time, we take all toys away and put them in cubbies for circle time and they are to stay on the carpet.

A lot of these kids get on the app for their daycare and watch themselves play. They will sit silently for nearly an hour until they fall asleep.

I (stupidly) took the phone from a 3 year old and he screamed and threw himself on the floor and banged his head. I thought this was a one time thing.

Today, I got a 2 year old that was watching himself and I took his phone away and he started throwing himself on the floor and banging his head.

An hour later, I walked over to another child to read her a book and she had a tablet in her hand and was watching herself. I took it away and she did the same thing.

What are we doing wrong? I’m floored that they are all doing this. Are theyCopying? Is the daycare supposed to say something (besides not to allow toddlers to have phones)?
