Is anyone else uneasy about the fact that China still holds over $800 billion in US debt securities?

China still owns an estimated $867.52 billion in U.S. Treasury bonds as of June 2023, making it the second-largest foreign holder of U.S. debt after Japan.

I understand that it’s a way for China to keep its currency strong, diversify their currency investments, and keep the US dollar strong, but I’m still uneasy about it. We had a 3 trillion deficit in 2020, and who knows what’ll happen in the future.

Now, I don’t know the ins and outs of international finance, but can we even do anything about it? I’m not even seeing it as a Republican issue but just as a US issue.

Edit: Thank you so much for the gold and the awards!
