What is something you wish you could tell your younger self before getting into anime?

I'm asking this because I remember when I first got into anime as a kid, it was all about the cool looking superpower anime and the ecchi stuff. It took me a while for me to get out of the "ecchi hell" and explore other genres.

Recently, I've recommended an anime to someone who never watched anime before. They were asking what they should watch, and at first, I recommended something like initial d, but then I thought that might be too weird to start with. So I recommended something a bit more popular like Attack on Titan or My Hero Academia. Then I thought that might be too gory, so I recommended something like Noragami or Blue Exorcist. But then again, that may have been too weird. So I finally came to the conclusion to recommend Your Lie in April. It had a nice story, characters, music, and a nice coming-of-age theme.

This whole recommendation process got me thinking: What if I recommended anime to my younger self? 12 year old me was definitely not going to watch a sad music anime like Your Lie in April. But what if I told my younger self to watch that anime, would I have enjoyed anime more? Would my taste in anime have changed?

There are a lot of factors that play into this, and a lot of what ifs. But what do you think. If you could go back in time and give yourself an anime recommendation, what would it be? Try to consider what your younger self may have enjoyed.
