What a terrible year for anime

2023 has been an absolute garbage year for anime, rivaling the lows of 2017.

1. Lack of sequels to major shows, if you exclude Re:Zero, Overlord, Attack on Titan, and One Punch Man, that is pretty much it. If you want to watch any other sequels, you either have to rely on ancient fucking shows like Seto no Hanayome or go for 2-3 year sequels to anime no one watched, like Akiba Meido Sensou.

2. Lack of source material adaptions, for every Kaizoku Ou ni Oroka na Tensei, Arifureta, Guilty Hunter, and Frieren, there are 2-3 fucking light novels or Manga like Eiyuu Kyoushitsu, Doga Kobo bullshit that took a 5 year gap, and An Adventurer's Work that gets an adaption, but every attempt for them to actually adapt anything actually fucking popular is met with rejection. Let's not forget 2-3 years of constant "accepting submissions" just to end up adapting something no one wanted, like Arifureta instead of Gokushufudou.

3. Lack of quality in the shows that came out, for example, Kaizoku Ou ni Oroka na Tensei has been consistently subpar since the first episode. Arifureta had some moments of quality, but a false marketing campaign, poor pacing, poor story development, and general poor writing has just left it a mess. I actually fucking lost my shit when they spent 10 minutes in a flashback talking about something that doesn't even fucking matter in the grand scheme of the story, while fucking glossing over something that is actually fucking important. I'm fucking done with Arifureta at this point. And let's not forget fucking fucking shitty fucking anime like Tengoku Daimokyou, Arifureta's shitty spin-off, and worst of all, wolverine's bad day.
