Feeling like you're in the "wrong" country

I'm from Portugal and I've lived in Germany for a short period of time. I'm originally from Lisbon, which is a very urban, cosmopolitan place that was settled by "exotic" people from all over the world in the 15th century and in the 1970s. Lisbon has felt like a cosmopolitan Southern European city, much like Athens, Istanbul, Beirute or Tel Aviv for example and much less like Western Europe.

I live in the countryside these days, so it's a completely different setting. But I consider myself more a Southern European, non Western "type" of person. I just don't feel like I belong to the Western, Central and Northern European world in the same way. I have always felt like I'm in the wrong country.

Don't know if it makes sense.
