What do you think about the idea that social media is the modern version of Plato's cave?

In Plato's version, there is a story of a group of people living in a cave who have been chained up for their entire lives, and their only hope is for the truth and to see real life. But instead, they're just stuck in a cave, watching a puppet show projected on the wall of the cave. Someone is standing behind them holding the puppets and hiding the real world, and the people in the cave can only see the puppets.

They consider their world complete and do not comprehend what lies beyond it so their only reality is the wall.

In our modern world, I think social media and the digital world can be comparable to Plato's cave.
Instagram and other social media are like the puppet show, and the people in the cave are like us, watching them, without realizing that reality is different.
A person who is not aware of this would be like the people in Plato's cave, seeing only what has been projected onto the wall of the cave. He or she would have no idea that there was a different world outside.

rmder
