Who's to Blame For Student Debt?

Proponents of free college often point to European equivalents. They claim that we need to tax more to subsidize college and that will help solve the student debt issue.<br><br>Could we not be blaming the wrong people? Student debt accounts for about $1.6 trillion in the US, whereas the military accounts for about $800 billion. The military has fluctuated significantly over the years and I think that would make a big dent in student debt.<br><br>What are your thoughts on this?
