Feminism is about equality between the sexes in all aspects of society including: political, domestic, personal, social, and economic. Feminists are not calling for the systematic oppression of men, but rather for women and men to be viewed as equals. Women are on average treated as second-class citizens, especially in the work place, and this needs to be stopped. Feminism is correct.

I think that most people will agree with the above paragraph (excluding the major trolls and misogynists). I will never identify as a feminist because I think the label of "feminist" has too much negative connotation. Since most people are "feminist" in their actions, I do not feel pressured to take a political label that I do not believe reflects the broad appeal of what feminists believe.

This is the same reason why I do not label myself as a humanist or an environmentalist. These belief systems are correct, but when I tell people I believe in environmentalism, they start to assume I am some crazy hippie who refuses to use deodorant. I am a humanist, but to most people this means that I am some sort anti-Christian asshole, when really I think that the teachings of Christ are great (I am an agnostic Buddhist).

Edit: user/chapulina pointed out that I contradicted myself when I said feminists want equal treatment for all, but then in my argument I said "women are treated as second-class citizens." I am not saying that women should be treated equally because of a historical debt to be paid by men. Women are humans, and they deserve equal respect. I think we should all be treated as equals. While I do not believe that many people individually act with prejudice towards women, I do think that society as a whole treats women as second-class citizens. Women are paid less in most jobs, face more obstacles for advancements in their careers, and are often viewed as sexual objects rather than just another human being.

Edit 2: user/LetsPlayTheNakedGame is right, I did not express my view clearly enough. I am not saying that feminists do not deserve a label, I am saying that the label of feminist has too many negative connotations. This is why I will not personally identify as a feminist. However, I think that feminists are 100% right, and am very happy that they exist.
