Some thoughts about the concept of the "Productive use of your life"

First of all: I think this sub is fantastic! The community's absolutely on point, great tips are being exchanged, very enthusiastic and optimistic spirit all around. However, I don't think the idea of a "productive use of life" is something we should be aiming for at all costs.

To make this short, we don't have to be productive. We don't have to achieve big things in life, we don't have to optimize our day to 100% effectiveness and we also don't have to be better than others at certain things. So many people say things like "oh, the use of your life is not to watch Netflix all day" or "You should use the time you watch TV to get better at something". But the truth is, that's ok. If you want to watch TV, go for it. If someone wants to help orphans all around the world for 6 hours a day, that's great too. It's ok to do nothing, it's ok to have a paid job just to earn money to live and enjoy the rest of your time the way you want it. If people say that you waste your life if you watch too much TV or play video games, that's bullshit. You don't have to live an extraordinary life. You don't have to make a dent in the universe. You don't have to leave a mark anywhere. You don't have to achieve fantastic things. Nobody will punish you if you didn't live your life to the fullest or didn't optimize your schedule to the maximum.

Some people don't like the concept of "being productive", because it reminds them of the industrial revolution, where the industrialists exploited the workers in their factories, just to make more money. And that's, what I think, the whole productive community is missing. We all say that we want to be productive, because we want to achieve fantastic things. But the truth is, we want to be productive, because we want to earn more money than others. We want to be better than others, because they're a benchmark for ourselves. We want to be more productive, because we want to make money out of it. Nobody talks about the fact that the economy needs us to be productive to survive. The whole productive concept is not about achieving fantastic things in life. It's about earning more money than others. So we can live better lives. So we can be better than others. So companies can make more money out of you than their competitors. It's a competition, a never ending race. Nobody knows where, nobody knows why. But everyone wants to win at all costs.

So, don't push yourself too hard. If you want to be productive, that's great. But if you just want to watch Netflix all day, that's fine too.
