What do you get in a chick fil a sandwich?

I don't understand how you eat a chicken sandwich. I mean you get a patty of chicken. Then you put it between two pieces of bread. And then there's a few pickle slices and lettuce in between the chicken and bread. I don't get the point of the lettuce in there. I want to eat the chick and the bread, but I also don't want to eat chick and bread with pickle and lettuce in the way. I get a chicken sandwich and then I have to pull the chicken and bread out of the sandwich just to eat it. I want to understand.
